Newton Abbot Branch of the
Devon Beekeepers Association
UK Registered Charity Number:
270675
Newton Abbot is a branch of the Devon Beekeepers Association (DBKA), which in turn is affiliated to the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA). A member of NABKA is automatically entitled to membership of the other two.
Founded in 1875, DBKA has a long history which is described in interesting detail in Ron Brown’s ‘1000 Years of Devon Beekeeping’ (a copy of this booklet is held in our branch library). ‘Beekeeping’, our Association journal also forms an interesting historical record.
As a not-for-profit organisation DBKA (and Newton Abbot) are run on a voluntary basis for the benefit of bees and beekeepers. We actively encourage membership to provide the help and resources needed to promote beekeeping and to support beginners and 'old hands' alike.
Our branch has over 100 members in such places as: Abbotskerswell, Ashburton, Bishopsteignton, Bovey Tracey, Chagford, Chudleigh Knighton, Dawlish, Ipplepen, Kinsteignton, Manaton, Moretonhampstead and Widecombe-in-the-Moor.

Our membership overlaps slightly with adjacent branches of the DBKA - Exeter (to the North), Okehampton, Tavistock and Plymouth (to the West), Totnes (South) and Torbay (to the East). click here to see other branch websites

Devon Wildlife Trust complete botanical survey for Clay Lane apiary

photo Glyn Davies
We are most grateful to Lynne Kenderdine, Devon Wildlife Trust County Wildlife Sites Officer for undertaking this brief botanical survey. As the site is now recognised as 'an area of agriculturally unimproved lowland semi-natural grassland which is immensely rare both nationally and at the county level', we will be following careful guidelines to manage and maintain it.
In addition, we will be adding to this survey our own members' observations of wildlife on the site.
