Resources

This is an exciting time for Newton Abbot Beekeepers - we have recently acquired a larger site for our branch apiary and (through the hard work and diligence of several members) now have a brand new clubhouse.

The apiary has an efficient management team, maintaining the site, stock and equipment while supporting newer beekeepers with husbandry skills. The hives are now all set on stands above paving slabs to help keep them free of weeds and clean. We have gradually replaced all the older equipment with new.

The new clubhouse has been funded by a combination of grants and donations, under the stewardship of our Secretary as 'project manager'. The facilities are nearing completion and include a good dry, warm space for meetings and lectures, toilet factilities and the ability to make refreshments.

Newton Abbot has some of equipment for members to hire for a small sum. We would like to develop this resource, but for now we have:

  • display material (from Ray Ford)
  • refractometer (from Ray Ford)
  • wax extractor (from Glyn Davies)
  • wax moulds (from Anke Ellis)

Beekeepers are an eclectic mix of enthusiasts who come together from all walks of life. Each brings their own experiences (and mistakes!) to share in a rich exchange of information. As an Association, we put on beekeeping lectures, demonstrations, talks and meetings to help us improve our knowledge and understanding. Read more...
